Profile

The man who starts San Lorenzo's attacking moves. Plays as a deep-lying playmaker with excellent vision and technique — the source compares him directly to Fernando Redondo, calling him one of the most technically gifted players in the squad. Rarely injured, rarely misses a match. Needs to shoot more often given his ball skills, and work on his finishing when he does.

Career to date (as of mid-1997)

One league title with San Lorenzo (Clausura '95). Called up repeatedly by Daniel Passarella but capped only once as a starter for the full 90 — the same Mendoza friendly against Venezuela (21 December 1995, 6-0) that also capped Biaggio. Called up for World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Ecuador but Passarella preferred Matías Almeyda in the no. 5 role. After Passarella's public falling-out with Fernando Redondo before the Colombia qualifier, many expected Galetto — given the stylistic similarities — to finally start, but Passarella again went with Gustavo Zapata (a San Lorenzo teammate) instead. Played locally from age 8 to 12, then joined Club Atlético El Carmen de Monte Cristo until 17. Trialled at Racing de Córdoba just before turning 18 and was signed; half a season in the fourth division, then the third; debuted for the first team at 20, playing a season in Torneo Nacional B '91/92, before a move to Talleres de Córdoba (Apertura '92, Clausura '93). Moved to Lanús for Apertura '93 under manager Miguel Ángel Russo, who converted him into an attacking midfielder. San Lorenzo signed him after that; he immediately took the no. 5 shirt and became a fan favorite, winning the Clausura '95 title. Cites Claudio Marangoni (Independiente, Boca) as his footballing model. Undisputed starter again in Clausura '97, playing every match; didn't contribute goals but was consistently the team's outlet from midfield — rated as one of San Lorenzo's best performers that season despite the club having had better campaigns overall in his time there.
