Profile

Out-and-out centre forward, with a natural finishing instinct and a real capacity to get shots away. His habitat is the penalty area, where he moves with ease and reads the game intelligently. Arrived from Paraguay and surprised everyone with how quickly he adapted to Argentine football, establishing himself as the reserve team's top scorer.

Career to date (as of mid-1997)

Born in Morón but moved to Asunción, Paraguay as a small child. Settled there, he came up through Cerro Porteño's youth system, one of the country's biggest clubs, and his goalscoring in the first team drew attention from several Argentine sides. Joined San Lorenzo ahead of Apertura '96 and immediately stood out in the reserve league, scoring heavily enough to earn a Primera debut on 22 September 1996 against Platense — he played just two more matches that tournament before Castelli moved on without him, and he went back to the reserves. He was a key piece there in the reserve team's title, scoring 18 goals in 20 matches. In Clausura '97 he was first cover for Biaggio and Abreu whenever either was injured or suspended, but never nailed down a starting role — Castelli preferred to keep him with continuity in the reserves. Played 9 matches, 1 goal, in Clausura '97.
