One of the few bright spots in an otherwise poor Boca campaign in Clausura '97. Plays as a right-sided midfielder, capable of dropping to right-back on the same flank. Reasonably precise in possession and gets forward into dangerous areas, but the source is clear his real value is ball-winning — a tenacious battler who leaves everything on the pitch, which is exactly why he suited Boca despite jeers from the club's fans in his first appearance in the shirt, before winning them over. Still undisciplined: one of the more heavily-carded players in the league.
Started out at Unión de Santa Fe, despite being a boyhood fan of their bitter local rival Colón. Made his Primera División debut on 6 October 1986 — against Boca Juniors — and suffered relegation to Nacional B with Unión in 1988. Moved to Instituto de Córdoba in 1989 (30 matches, 9 goals in 1989/90) before another relegation there, then returned to Unión in 1990. A strong Apertura '90 campaign earned a move to River Plate in 1991, where he won three league titles (Apertura '91, Apertura '93, Apertura '94) despite a strained relationship with River's own supporters. Left for Colón de Santa Fé in 1995 after a serious dispute with River assistant coach Omar Labruna — a move that also cost him any goodwill left among Unión's fans. While at Colón, he had a heated on-pitch confrontation with Diego Maradona during Maradona's comeback match for Boca at La Bombonera, which led to referee Lamolina sending Maradona off; the two later traded words on television. Joined Boca Juniors in 1996.
