HistorialDurante la era amateur consiguio el titulo en 1913. Comenzo la era profesional en Primera Division. Gano los siguientes torneos: Metropolitano 1967 (con el famoso equipo de Osvaldo Zubeldia), de Primera Division 1982 y Nacional 1983. Solo descendio una vez, en 1953, retornando apenas un ano despues a la maxima categoria. Entre 1968 y 1970 cumplio un ciclo brillante en el plano internacional, ya que obtuvo la Copa Libertadores de America en 1968, 1969 y 1970, la Copa Intercontinental en 1968 y la Interamericana en 1969. Ostenta un record historico: fue el primer cuadro de los denominados chicos que logro un titulo profesional, luego de 36 anos de hegemonia de los equipos grandes.
