HistorialJuega desde 1931 en Primera División. Descendió en cuatro oportunidades: 1943, 1945, 1951 y 1979, pero logró ascender la misma cantidad de veces. Así fue en 1944, 1948, 1952 y 1984. Sus mejores campañas: Quinto en 1933 luego de animar todo el campeonato (se lo apodó "El expreso platense" por su tren demoledor). Tercero en 1962, en gran actuación y semifinalista en el Nacional de 1970. Ese año, en que pudo lograr su primer campeonato profesional, sus jugadores se declararon en huelga cuando debían jugar contra Central dilapidando una gran oportunidad. Su único título en 102 años de historia lo consiguió en 1929, cuando fenecía el amateurismo.
