Profile

Boca's starting goalkeeper through the back half of Clausura '97, per the source, though it notes the club had already brought in Oscar Córdoba to compete for the shirt after feeling he hadn't fully proven himself. Tall with excellent reflexes and rated as a genuinely complete young keeper with a bright future if he can lock down the position.

Career to date (as of mid-1997)

Began at Argentino de Las Parejas — the same club that produced Jorge Valdano — before joining Rosario Central's youth setup at 14, recruited by Ricardo Palma. Lived in the club pension for three years before signing his first contract. Understudied Roberto Bonanno (later River Plate's goalkeeper) until Bonanno's serious injury opened the door; debuted in Primera División on 6 December 1994, playing two matches that Apertura. Won the starting job outright the following Clausura under coach Ángel Zof, then played every match of Apertura '95 and a large share of the 1995 Copa Conmebol campaign — though Bonanno, recovered from injury, started both finals when Central won the trophy on penalties against Atlético Mineiro. A shoulder injury cost him the 1996 Clausura before Boca bought his contract for Clausura '97. Started as back-up to Guzmán at Boca but took over as first choice mid-match against Deportivo Español after a poor first half from Guzmán, and kept the shirt for the rest of the tournament. Called into a full Argentina squad by Passarella for a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela, but remained on the bench behind Pablo Cavallero.
