Ruben van Bommel is a 21-year-old Dutch left winger for PSV Eindhoven, born 3 August 2004 in Meerssen — the son of PSV and Netherlands legend Mark van Bommel, and grandson of former Netherlands manager Bert van Marwijk through his mother's side. He came through PSV's own academy before leaving for MVV Maastricht, where a 15-goal breakout season triggered a move to AZ Alkmaar, and eventually a return to PSV on an 11 July 2025 five-year deal.
His start was genuinely excellent. He scored on his PSV debut against Groningen and carried a 7.62 average rating into his fourth appearance. Then, on 21 September 2025, he suffered an ACL tear against Ajax that ended his season. This is the single most important fact about his 2025-26 campaign — every stat on this card comes from roughly 3-4 matches, not a season.
On the two supplied "U19" match files: research indicates these belong to the 2025 UEFA European Under-19 Championship (Netherlands beat Germany 3-0 in the group stage, lost the final to Spain on 26 June 2025) — a tournament for a younger Dutch generation. Van Bommel had already progressed to U20 level by March 2023 and U21 by September 2023, more than two years before that tournament. These files do not appear to involve him at all and have been excluded from the Matches tab rather than presented as his footage.
Empire FGA Status Note
Tier 1 data-thin (injury) · Tier 2/3 not scored · No final FGA composite. The father-son Champions League scorer storyline is real and notable, but it belongs to a different competition and season — don't let it inflate the assessment of this specific PSV campaign.
